Heavy weight lifting “a cult”

“Heavy weight” training is the most popular, the most followed and the biggest fitness myth among the people who are new or old into fitness.

There are many reasons that heavy weight lifting has become a cult, even though there are no scientific background and logic behind the heavy lift. Few reasons are as follows:

  1. “Feel good factor”. You feel good and satisfied when you lift heavy. You get to feel that you have achieved something.
  2. “Show off”. Bulky weights are always an attraction to others which shows the strength of the one who is lifting it. Whether the right posture or form has to be sacrificed. Even small or big injury can also be afforded happily to get that “wow” from others.
  3. Muscles have to be stressed to be able to grow. Therefore, when people think about stress, the first thing comes into their minds is lifting heavier set by set. Instead, stress can be given to the muscles through various ways like high reps, slow reps, high volume, etc.
  4. One feels strong after lifting heavy. That strong and toned feeling becomes an addiction.

What actually heavy lifting means? How can you lift heavy without losing the form, technique and without getting injured?
