The word ashwagandha comes from two words, “ashwa” means horse and “gandha” means smell. Which describes the smell of the horse (its roots). The botanical name is “withania somnifera”. Also known as “indian ginseng” or “winter cherry”.
It is an evergreen shrub that grows in India and parts of Africa. They are thought to be useful as a medicinal herb in Ayurveda, though there is no conclusive clinical evidence to prove this thought.
